Abstract

The study was conducted to evaluate and design a water distribution system in Flalak - Purok 6, Barangay Lapu, Polomolok, South Cotabato. The bucket method was used to determine the discharge of two outlets in Flanak where the reading of the first outlet is 4.5 x 10 m /s (0.45 Ips) and for the second outlet is 3.7 x 10-4 m/s (0.37 LPs) for the first and second outlet, respectively. Results of the water quality assessment showed that Outlet I passed the physicochemical as to pH of water, color, and turbidity. The bacteriological analysis of Outlet 1 as to E.coli count passed the standard but the Fecal Coliform count and Total Coliform count had higher values compared to the standard. For Outlet 2, the physicochemical as to pH of water, color, and turbidity passed the standard, and the bacteriological analysis as to Fecal Coliform count, Total Coliform count, and E.coli count did not pass the standard. All the parameters are conformed to the Philippine National Standard for Drinking Water (PNSDW). Information about the main source, the population of the area, and the water demand are determined through a survey. The spring source will be developed to supply water to the designed Cistern Tank. The Cistern Tank is needed to collect the water from the spring source to be pumped to the designed Overhead Tank. It can store at least 2.5 m of water and has an inside dimension of 1.85 m x 1.85m x 0.72 m and the total cost for the design of the Cistern tank is P42, 383.00. In design Overhead Tank, it delivers water by gravity, with sufficient amounts of water to the households through a distribution line installed accordingly. It has a dimension of 2 mx 2 m x 2.25 m and its capacity to store water is 7m. The pipe used for the water system is a polyethylene type of pipe and the total cost for the design of the Overhead Tank is P61. 144.00. Total cost for the design water system is P108.527.00. Layouts of the area and maps are prepared to determine the location of each household. storage tank and pipe distribution system. This information is essential for the design of the water distribution system and further thorough assessment of the area is recommended for proper planning and development that may benefit the people of the area.
