PERCEPTION OF MAGUINDANAON YOUTH ON FACILITATING FACTORS OF PRE-MARITAL SEX

Abstract

This study aimed to know the perception of Maguindanaon youth towards premarital sex, particularly on its facilitating factors such as family influence, social media influence, economic factors, and peers. Also, this study detemined to know the sources of attitude towards pre-marital sex among this group. Lastly, this study determined which among these influences contribute more towards their perception about premarital sex.

Information was gathered using modified survey questionnaires, distributed through Purok Masagana, Kalawag II Isulan, Sultan Kudarat. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics such as mean. The Maguindanaon youth were the respondents of the study. Most of the Maguindanaon youth in the locality were males because they were easy to find and they constantly roamed around to socialize with their peers. The majority of the respondents were 20 years old.

It was also found out that social media influence was the primary source of the attitude of Maguindanaon youths towards pre-marital sex, wherein they get information about sex through Facebook, TV, radio, and by watching movies and shows that have content related to pre-marital sex.

After analyzing the gathered data as the facilitating factors for engagement in pre-marital sex, the researcher concluded that the youth were greatly influenced by social media factors such as family, economic factors, and peers.

Lastly, further improvement of moral development activities is needed to help Maguindanaon youth understand the value of sex. This can be done through various fora and symposia to be conducted in schools.
