Abstract

The Yap family is a well-known political figure in Glan's local politics-they managed to hold elective office in the Municipality of Glan for many years, passing the seat from one sibling to another. The general content of this paper revolves around the sibling rivalry of the Yap Siblings in the local politics of Glan Sarangani Province. This study aims to understand the political dominance and the rivalry of the Yap Siblings and all the other factors that helped them permeate in the political scene in Glan. As a case study, this paper gave insight into how a vast and influential political family would eventually have a slippage of power.

The study used a qualitative-quantitative research design and applied a structured interview for the Key Informant Interview (KII) and a survey questionnaire. Three (3) barangay officials, thirty (30) residents of Glan were interviewed and supplemented the necessary data for this study.

The study has found that the political environment in Glan, Sarangani had contributed to the perpetuation of the Yap Siblings in the local politics. However, the political rivalry between and among the siblings had a significant effect to the level of satisfaction of the residents of Glan. The study also found that the Yap sibling rivalry has affected the local development in the municipality.
