The general content of this paper revolves on the civilians who joined the NDF- CPP-NPA, the motivations of combatants to surrender to the Philippine government and the nature of the disarmament, demobilization and reintegration program of the Philippine govemment for communist combatants. The aim of this paper is to explain the motivation of the NPA rebels of joining and eventually quitting from the community organization and understand the life of the combatants who underwent demobilization and reintegration program.
With the application of qualitative and descriptive type of research, this study used structure interviews for the Key Informants Interview (KII) and Archival Research. Thirty (30) informants from the surrendered New People's Army combatants were interviewed, one (1) representative from the 5th Special Forces Battalion and representatives from the Provincial Social Welfare and Development.
The study found out that the civilians joined the NDF-CPP-NPA for many reasons. These are because of many struggles, many struggles, disappointments and discouragements they have encountered. Then the motivations of the combatants to surrender to the Philippine government are the sufferings they encountered inside the front. They are also motivated to surrender because of their families and because of the new system of the government. Finally, the nature of the disarmament, demobilization and reintegration program of the Philippine government is to provide the ex-combatant an assistance so that they would never return to the movement.
