Abstract

The Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has had a significant effect on labor market metrics, economic sector, and major demographic group in the City of Koronadal. The business sector in the City of Koronadal, particularly the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) has been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to a major recession and rising unemployment.

This study aims to know how does the LGU- Koronadal answers the needs of their constituents and how did they contribute in providing assistance specifically to those who lose their jobs and livelihoods that belongs to the informal sector.

The research design model enables us to show the areas that were investigated. The model also shows the problem, the sources that used in gathering data, and the method of analyzing the data. The respondents of this study are those who are unemployed during the surge of pandemic only in the vicinity of Koronadal City. The researchers as well use the snowball sampling in accumulating responses and data.

The study shows that there are certain factors that greatly affects the lives and jobs of some people specifically those who belong in the informal sector. However, due to the intervention of the LGU-Koronadal in addressing the issue of unemployment and the loss of income, many residents of the city are satisfied with how they cooperated with the National Government Agency and how they managed to create their own program to provide and support those vulnerable.
