Abstract

Based on oral accounts, local inhabitants have different versions of how the term Tinagacan is derived. For the Blaan elders, the place was then called B'luan, which means "a deep and wide lake." Geographically, Tinagacan before was a haven of wild animals such as wild pigs, deers, monkeys, and a paradise to many bird species like the now-extinct Kalaw. The place wasa mountainous and forested land area composed of hardwood trees good for art wood and Dadiangas trees.
Migration is the simplest permanent or semi-permanent movement of people to a new location. It
may be permanent, temporary, recurrent, or seasonal and can take place in single generation or across several. The factors that influence migration are those that exert a "pull" on individuals and population because of attractions such as job opportunities, and those that seem to "push" individuals or groups by forcing them to leave a place as when people must flee because of a decline of peace and order. Another factor that influences migration is the ease of use of transformation services. The easier to travel, the bigger migration can become.
The Settlement in Tinagacan was most likely the same as the other settlements in the other places of the world. People chose to stay in the place for it can sustain the needs of the inhabitants in the area. The area was rich such as in agricultural land, and people are used this abundance for a living
For instance, the Barangay Tinagacan traced back its beginning as early as the 1880s when mass migration of Islamized Maguindanaons from Kutawato (Cotabato) arrived at Sugoda-sa-Buayan. This happened due to an enlarge campaign by the Spanish government against Datu Otto and later on against Datu Ali by the American colonizers. Moreover, upon the arrival of Gen. Paulino Santos in 1939, together with the sixty-two (62) first batch of settlers, led to the influx of Christian migrants in the city.
