The Basic Ecclesial Community (BEC) or GKK San Agustin in Purok
Lumbang, Barangay San Jose, has had an impact on the spiritual aspect of the residents. Nonetheless, it influenced the status quo of Barangay San Jose and its history (written or unwritten).
The purpose of this research was to investigate and discover the creation and continuation of the GKK San Agustin, the processes in its approval to become a GKK, the steps in choosing its Patron Saints, the reasons why these particular Saints were chosen, the importance of the GKK in its members and the parish, the problems they encountered, and the effective solutions implemented.
According to the findings of the study, the GKK San Agustin was created to provide people with easy access to the church. The GKK organizers attended BCC seminars and elected Ad hoc officers following the parish's needs. The residents met to choose their patron saint and to build their churches/chapels. They chose their patron saints for two reasons: (1) it was a majority decision, and (2) it was the original patron saint of the organizers' places of origin. (3) Individual devotions.
The study also revealed that the members experienced misunderstandings that resulted in chaos, but this constraint was overcome through improved communication. As a result, this study concluded that the pioneers of this place created the GKKS with a democratic approach to governance in the 'Bayanihan' spirit. Furthermore, the saints were chosen as patrons based on whose persona the residents wanted to follow and pray to.
