THE NON-ROMAN CATHOLIC CHRISTIAN CHURCHES IN BARANGAY FATIMA, GENERAL SANTOS CITY (PART3)

Abstract

Barangay Fatima is among the top five most populous barangays in General
Santos City. While the city's population remains predominantly Roman Catholic in terms of religion, the Non-Roman Catholic population has seen significant growth in the last decades. Hence, obtaining information regarding this significant and growing portion of the city's population is important.
This study aimed to come up with a clearer picture of the Non-Roman Catholic churches, specifically in Puroks 11C, 13B, and 16 of Barangay Fatima, in order to identify existing churches, determine their founding history, point out the major challenges faced by founding church leaders and ascertain the most appropriate communicative history applicable in this context.
Interviews with the key informants from the thirteen (13) identified Non- Roman Catholic Christian Churches in the said Puroks revealed the history and nature of the founding of these churches. They also identified their founding church leaders' challenges in their churches' early years: lack of financial resources, land ownership, and internal conflicts among members.
While oral tradition remains a viable option for communicative history, considering that most of the churches have only been founded in the last two decades and there are still living witnesses to the significant events that happened in their church, written history and the use of technology such as audio and video to retain historical data is now more appropriate.
