The existence of each Basic Ecclesial Community (BEC) or GKK within
General Santos City has been influential that contributed to its growth throughout the years. Especially on the emerging spiritual aspect in every person up to its community and further locate the written and oral history of Barangay San Jose.
This study intends to dig into GKK San Francisco de Assisi among the 46 BECs controlled by Our Lady of Fatima Parish. Along with the formation of GKK, the patron saint selected, the value of both the GKK to the members, the Parish's activities, the coordinator's view, the constraints encountered, and solutions presented. This study used a qualitative method using a descriptive and historical approach to gather the data.
The result of the study revealed that the formation of GKK San Francisco de Assisi was to let the people get closer to Church and practice their faith. Besides, Ad hoc officers complied with the requirements like seminars, orientations, and others. The reasons why they chose their patron saint: (1) it was through votive selection, (2) by a recommendation, (3) and to prevent any conflict in the timetable with the other
GKKS.
The study also concluded that the slightest enduring collaborative effort would ultimately exhibit how it persistently worked and manifested that imitates the acts of Saint Francis of Assisi. Additionally, following the Church's vision of communion, participation, and mission as a priestly, prophetic, and kingly people. Thus, a Church of the Poor is now finding embodiment with one ecclesial community nurturing Basic Ecclesial Communities.
