Abstract

The Basic Ecclesial Community (BEC) or GKK San Jose in Purok 1, San Jose
General Santos City, has impacted the spiritual aspect of the residents of the place.
The study is about creating the GKK San Jose in Purok 1, San Jose, General Santos City, and its continuance to the present. The study focuses on answering why the GKK was stirred up by the Catholic Church and its importance among its members and the parish. Moreover, it also discusses the creation of the GKK and the selection of their patron saint- San Jose, and the importance of the constant interaction between the GKK San Jose and the Our Lady of Fatima Parish. Lastly, it discusses the GKK's issues and problems and the adequate remedies used to prevent the creation of GKK.
The results of the study revealed that the GKK San Jose was the reason the church became closer to the people and allowed the Gospel to propagate in their area effectively. There were six families that pioneered the small Catholic gathering and planned to develop their own GKK. The KrisKa and regular Holy Rosary sessions were the activities that they undertook to help their members strengthen their faith and devotion. They chose their patron saint as it will serve as a spiritual guide for the GKK and a role model and intercessor for all God's people. The reasons why they chose their patron saints: (1) it was the decision of the majority; (2) presence and connection of the saint in churchly activities; and (3) personal devotions. The study also revealed that the members experienced contraints, yet all problems were resolved through understanding and "bayanihan".
