Abstract

This study is a qualitative research and a Critical Discourse Analysis. It utilized the Transitivity System. Thus, it would identify the dominant process and the other transitivity processes. It also provided the implications of the major process type. Moreover, it used the Discourse Theory. In addition, the study will answer the following problems which are the major process type and the other transitivity processes employed in the addresses of PRRD on COVID-19, the communicative implications of the major process type in helping PRRD convey his intention in his precautionary measures on COVID-19, and the ways of power enacted by PRRD during his discourses on COVID-19. The researcher only used six (6) speeches of PRRD's Talk to the People on COVID-19. Furthermore, 333 of the major process pattern of clauses are found in the speeches of PRRD's 2021 Talk to the People on COVID-19. And material process is major process type. PRRD uses "I" and "we" pronouns as actors to express material processes in the clauses. It results that PRRD considers himself as prime mover of the precautionary measures in the COVID-19. And the ways of power enacted by PRRD in his speeches are command, threat, and instructions.
