Abstract

This study aimed to detect errors in the instructions given in the English 7 Self-Learning Modules of Datu Andiam Manza National High School. It utilized the 14 Self-Learning Modules of the students from the 1st and 2nd quarters of the school year 2021-2022. This study used a qualitative research method. The researcher adopted the Error Analysis of Corder (1974) and the Surface Strategy Taxonomy approach of Dulay, Burt & Krashen (1982) to analyze the errors found in the modules. The results revealed that addition, omission, misinformation, and misordering are the categories of errors found in the Self-Learning Modules. Also, it showed that the interlingual error and intralingual error are the two sources of errors in the SLMs. Moreover, the errors found in the SLMs imply that some teachers have low proficiency in the basic rules and patterns of the English language composition and thus, these errors affect the second language learning of the Grade 7 students.
