CHARACTER ARCHTYPES AND STYLE OF MAKOTO SHINKAI

The animated films of Makoto Shinkai namely "Garden of Words", "Your Name", and "Weathering with You" have all been acclaimed as powerful films both in Japan and around the world. This study analyzed some of the characters and the features that Shinkai used that made these films successful. The analysis centered on determining the character archetypes of the main characters in each film and the features used in crafting the films. Initial analysis showed that Makoto Shinkai favors the character archetypes such as The Warrior Figure and the Caregiver Figure as seen in his animated films. Further analysis could study the features of his works that remain consistent through his
work.
