Abstract

The existence of heroes are not only found within those who are known as good and law-abiding people but also to those who are misunderstood. This prevails not only in the past but also today in the present. This research aimed to identify and characterize pirates as a hero, and to reflect their experiences in the films into the present. The study utilized Formalistic Approach to characterize the main characters who are pirates and how they redeemed themselves as heroes in the film; Mythological Approach was used to trace the main characters' journeys in the films; and, Sociological Approach with its theories to reveal realities, and reflect it into the present. The results showed the main characters' who are unwanted characters are forced to embrace the doings of a pirate due to their circumstances, in the end they are all considered heroes in their own ways. Furthermore, the experiences of the main characters are also present in reality such as: child labor and the effect of parents' separation, the love of a mother, a sacrifice for the society, deceiving or misleading the people, resorting to unrightful deeds to provide for the family, and breaking the stigma for a change. As a whole, thiss study concludes that not all heroes wear cape, and are powerful just like in the films, and it has also proven that a person's actions can either have a good or bad effect into a person's life and even in the society.
