THE FILIPINO FAMILY IN CONTEMPORARY FILMS

Abstract

This study is qualitative employing content analysis. This described and analyzed the Filipino family as shown in the selected contemporary Filipino films. It focused and analyzed the films entitled "Seven Sundays (2013), Four Sisters and a Wedding (2017), and Hello, Love, Goodbye (2019)" which were determined using the purposive sampling procedure based on the following criteria in choosing the said films: family oriented, relatable story background, and realization of family traits and challenges. The study used Formalistic Approach, Sociological Approach, and Moralistic Approach. The researcher used Formalistic Approach to answer question number one (1.) Who are the main characters in the selected contemporary films? Sociological Approach to answer the following; what are the struggles in their respective families and how does the characters deal with their family. Moralistic Approach to answer question number three (3.) What are the Filipino family values revealed in the contemporary films. This study proved that through film, they can develop, adapt, and mold their perception of a family must have by seeing those six (6) family values that are revealed in the selected contemporary films. This study emphasized the importance of Filipino films in dealing with their family. It seeks the reader to make ways to grow film industry and keep in their mind that they have a significant influence on the performance of the film.
