Abstract

This study aimed to find out the reading fluency in Arabic Language of ALIVE struggling readers of Lanton High School, S.Y 2020-2021. This analysed the effectiveness of Repeated Reading Strategy to enhance the lacking skill in reading of the students. It used the quasi-experimental design of research. This study utilized 10 days experimental procedure that followed lesson plans which the researcher prepared. Pre-test was administered to determine the reading fluency in Arabic language of 30 respondents before the intervention. Post-test was conducted to determine the performance of students after the applied intervention. This study adapted the rubric for reading fluency in Phil. IRI. The result of the pre- test revealed that students need more reading activities to increase their speed. While in the post-test revealed that the students have improved their accuracy in word recognition from frustration to instructional. Overall, the result revealed that the ALIVE students have frustration level in word recognition and have slow reading speed. However, after applying the Repeated Reading Strategy, the readers have instructional level in word recognition and average reading speed. It also revealed that this strategy is effective in improving the word recognition and reading speed in Arabic language of the readers. This study recommends that the teachers employ the Repeated Reading Strategy for longer period to help the struggling readers to enhance their reading fluency.
