THE LANGUAGE OF ONLINE SELLERS

Abstract

This paper deals with an analysis of the linguistic features used in the Facebook posts of the three popular food shops in General Santos City namely: Chaiwan Boba Tea Shop, Messy Burger, and Ramen Ta Bai in terms of Rhyme, Rhythm, Alliteration, Assonance and Graphic aspect of a Text to determine the importance of seller-consumer relationship in an online marketing strategy. The instrument used was a study of documentation by analyzing the content of their posts obtained through their Facebook pages from January 1 to February 1, 2021. Screenshots of the posts from each shop were taken and explained thoroughly. Moreover, the researcher will analyze how the seller promoted and described their goods online. After gathering all the data, the result of this research showed that 'Messy burger' has used the most 'rhyme' in its texts and 'Rhythm' was used at its best by 'Ramen Ta Bai Gensan'. Other linguistic features are also present in the posts of three shops. This research helped us understand that language has a very important role to attract customer's attention to buy online. These online posts present ideology and a set of ideology that depicts the desirable opinions of the consumers, as every seller incorporates the linguistic features to attract and catch the reader's eye. The ideology and the linguistic features used in these posts have strikingly the same results on the consumers. Therefore, businesses are required to have good language skills in promoting and informing their products effectively.
