BLAAN FOLK SONGS OF POLOMOLOK, SOUTH COTABATO: LEARNING MATERIAL FOR GRADE 7

Abstract

This study, the Blaan Folk songs in Polomolok South Cotabato determined the different types of folk songs. The descriptive-analytic method was used in analyzIng the folk songs. The instrument used to determine the degree of validity of the translated folk songs was the Modified Criteria of Valid Translation from Larsen (1998). The findings of the study are: (1) Ten Blaan folksongs were retrieved namely: Kamdo To, Bong Kamdom, Nang ge mngel, Fkurang Nga, Fliko Nga, Tua Libon, Nga Angok, Ta naten gu gamtulen, Lingag gu magu and La nimen la run, all translated from Blaan to the English Language. (2) As evaluated by the validators, the translation process of the ten Blaan Folk songs was proven valid in terms of accuracy, choice of terminology, use of the grammar and naturalness of the language with the highest percentage as rated. The learning material produced is intended for the Grade seven (7) learners which can help them appreciate more on Blaan folksongs. This study implies that the Blaan folksongs will preserve and be used by future generations for more cultural knowledge, especially in oral literature.
