POLITENESS STRATEGIES IN NETFLIX ORIGINALS'RIVERDALE

This study is about the Politeness Strategies used by the main characters of the Netflix Original Series, Riverdale. It aimed to identify the different politeness strategies and their factors using Brown and Levinson's Politeness Theory.This study employed the descriptive qualitative design to identity the politeness strategies and the factors of politeness strategies applied by the main characters in their utterances.It covered the thirteen(13)episodes.The results revealed that the main characters in the series used all the four types of politeness strategies in their utterances which are Bald on-record,Positive Politeness,Negative Politeness, and Off-record. Moreover, five factors of politeness strategies were also used by the main characters in their conversations such as the Contextual Factor,Distance Factor,Gender Factor, Intrinsic Factor and Power Factor.The main characters are of the same cultural orientation and of the same level in the society.thus Rank Factor wasn't used.
