THE LANGUAGE OF GAY VLOGGERS

Abstract

This research study aims to: (1) identify the linguistic features used by the gay vloggers based on the language of woman by Robin Lakoff, (2) determine how these linguistic features help the vlog to create entertainment and (3) figure out the implication of their language used to gender. This research used quantitative method in quantification of linguistic features by Robin Lakoff used in their video vlogs such as Lexical hedges or fillers, Tag questions, Rising intonation on declaratives, 'Empty' adjectives, Precise color terms, Intensifiers, 'Hypercorrect' grammar, and Avoidance of strong swears words, and used qualitative method that followed content analysis to describe and interpret video content and linguistic features found in the vlogs. The analysis yields the finding that 52.12% of the linguistic features based on the language of women found in the vlog is Intensifiers which means that all of the gay vloggers are fonder of using intensifiers. In addition, the use of linguistic features helped the vlogs in creating entertainment and by capturing millions of viewers and garnered millions of views. The said linguistic features are essential in playing a vital role to attribute to the language and to the gender.
