ECOCRITICISM IN SELECTED ANIMATED FILMS

Abstract

This research study aimed to identify the environmental issues, the struggles of the protagonists and resolution to this issues as reflected in the films. The data used in this study are the films The Lorax (2012) directed by Chris Renaud Ferngully: The Last Rainforest (1992) directed by Bill Kroyer and WALL-E (2008) directed by Andrew Stanton. The researcher used Ecocriticism by Arne Naes to identify the environmental issues present in the films and Formalistic Approach by Skylar Burris to Identify the struggles of the protagonists and how they solved this struggles. The environmental issues that are present in this films brought struggles to each of the protagonists, because the environment drawbacks the effect of pollution on air water, and soil that results to catastrophic events that makes the protagonists struggles. Due to this problems, the protagonists make efforts to find the solution on how to solve the environmental issues. They solved it by doing efforts and good deeds that helps the environment back to its natural condition.
