THE MALEVOLENT RIGHT: EXISTENTIALISM ON HITOSHI IWAAKI'S PARASYTE THE MAXIM

This study is qualitative in nature that employed content analysis.The study utilized Formalistic Approach and Psychological Approach in identifying and discussing the principal characters' opposing perspectives and the tension created by these said perspectives while the key concepts of Existentialism were used in identifying how these perspectives mirror the characters' search for existence in the Parasyte Anime Series. The results showed that the clash between the Humans and the Parasites (the antagonists of the series) was rooted to their respective rights to live. Aside from this, there are also conflicts amongst themselves. Consequently, these conflicts have changed Shinichi Izumi (the main protagonist) and adopted the Parasites' indifferent nature while the Parasites Migi and Reiko Tamura acquired human attributes like emotions and sympathy. Moreover, both Humans and Parasites' perspectives on reality and existence were accounted to several psychological and existential concepts thus creating similarities between the two. The idea of coexistence between the two species is impossible because they pose a threat to each other. Ultimately, their conflict was never a matter of morality but a matter of survival.
