A monitoring system was developed based on the temperature, relative humidity and soil moisture content of a plant to minimize the occurrence of excessive and irregular irrigation that lead to certain problems like shortage in soil nutritive elements and decrease inproductivity. The system is consists of two nodes, base node and sensor node, that is installed wirelessly. Sensor node is responsible for data acquisition from the installed sensor. In addition, RX module is also connected on it to transmit data to the base node. Base node is responsible for transmitting data to the· BLYNK cloud. Lt Used Global Packet Radio Service (GPRS) as its communication. Data transmitted to the BLYNK cloud will then be evaluated with threshold values of temperature, relative humidity and soil moisture content before it will be displayed in the BYNK application. If the data are above or below the respected limit, a notification through Gmail and push notifications will then appear.
The system was tested and it was concluded that the operating maximum distance for the RF module was 35 meters only both RX and TX module have antennas. In addition, stability ofthe GPRS communication was not that stable and the data displayed on the application has time delay based on the researchers observation. Therefore, instead of using GPRS, the researchers suggest to use of a more stable communications like wifi to have a smooth data receiving communication. Also, researchers recommend the use of a high operating frequency for the RF module for a better and wider coverage.
