Abstract

Header pipe is a vital part of any motorcycle exhaust system that aids the performance of the engine. It helps exhaust gases escape the engine and plays an important parts in exhaust scavenging and drawing in a fresh draught of air or fuel/air mixture for the next cycle. The main goal of this research study is to investigate the effect of the customization of header to the engine performance. The assembly of the customized header takes a couple of days to make sure that the products fits to the engine and there is no air leak in the welding joints. In the first day of experimentation, the standard header was being tested and analyzed first. A fan is directly faced to the engine to lower the heat and to cool the engine fast. The data is the recorded with the use of video camera focusing to the speedometer and then to the sound meter. Then, the tuned header is tested in the second day of experimentation; same process of assembly and data gathering is done. The results from the gathered data indicated that a tuned header adds more power to the engine and makes the engine accelerate much faster than that of standard headers.
