Abstract

In order to solve the student attendance and monitoring problem in school, colleges and universities are using RFID technology and Microcontrollers like Arduino. In the proposed system, students will be identified by placing passive tag in the students' ID card. This system will take care of the attendance while he/she enters the classroom and if the student moves out of the class and enters some other class room or any other location within the campus, a message which indicates the current location of that student will be sent to the system which then can be monitored by the teacher or staff assigned.

The RFID reader can be connected to a computer and the attendance can be recorded directly and by using the real time clock capability of the system the attendance can be recorded directly and the attendance can be noted along with the in-time and out- time of every student.

The paper used the trial and error method. It is dominantly qualitative in nature aiming for the best product or outcome. A series of test was done to calculate the deviance and resolve problems that was encountered and answered the following questions, will the RFID reader read the card correctly, will the display return the right amount of information or will the RFID reader detect a clone card. After the test were conducted the outcome is at most fully functional and ready to use.

The system can be upgraded to have additional features like e-point system and debit card applications to the RFID cards.
