Groundwater contamination is one of the leading areas of concern for many regions of the world, particularly those areas with limited water supplies.
This study aims to assess the quality of raw water coming from artesian well as a source of drinking of the local residence at Purok Aquino, Barangay Naci, Surallah, South Cotabato in terms of its bacteriological and nitrogen content, ph, the biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) and the physical parameters through resident's perception within the locality.
The water sample is taken from artesian well at the locality of the Purok. The analysis of the water samples was done by Department of Health (DOH) certified laboratories. Then the results were compared to the standards of Philippine National Standards for Drinking Water (PNSDW, 2007) for bacteriological and for chemical test results were compared to the standards of DENR administrative order (DAO) 2016-08.
Furthermore, the researcher visited 80 households to give questionnaires and the questionnaire was designed to gather information pertaining to the potability of water as viewed the residents within the said Purok.
The results of the analysis indicate that all the mentioned parameters set by the PNSDW and DAO were passed. However, the ph level of water sample failed to pass the standard. Due to this results, the researcher concluded that the artesian well water investigated at said Purok is still considered as potable for drinking.
