Factors Affecting The Performance Of Construction Projects In General Santos City

Abstract

The construction industry plays an important role in the development of any city or nation and is a significant contributor to economic growth. However, several factors influence the performance, development, and growth of the construction industry. The contractors and the implementing agencies encounter different challenges that affect the quality and productivity of a construction project. This study, therefore, evaluates the factors that affect the performance of construction projects in General Santos City. Project performance can be measured and evaluated using a variety of performance indicators such as cost, time, quality, client satisfaction, health and safety, etc. Therefore, this study is expected to establish the most important factors affecting the performance of construction projects in the city, as well as the most significant Key Performance Indicators. Lastly, the study also gathered recommendations to improve the performance of General Santos City's construction industry. Data for this study were obtained from both primary and secondary sources. The primary data were obtained from a well-structured questionnaire that was distributed to construction professionals from contracting companies, implementing agencies, or government personnel who are currently involved in a construction project with a cost of 10 Million Pesos and above. Out of 60 distributed questionnaires, 53 were received back which represents a response rate of 88.33%, these data formed the basis of this study. Frequency analysis and other statistical procedures were used to analyze the returned questionnaire data."
