THE GROWTH PERFORMANCE OF KABIR CHICKENS AS AFFECTED BY DIFFERENT LEVELS OF UNRIPENED CAVENDISH BANANA (Musa acuminata) FRUIT MEAL IN THE RATION

Abstract

The study was conducted to determine the growth performance of Kabir chickens as affected by different levels of unripened Cavendish banana (Musa acuminata) fruit meal in the ration in terms of feed consumption, live weight gain, feed conversion efficiency, mortality rate and income over feed and chick cost of Kabir chickens. The study was carried out in Completely Ramdomized Design (CRD) with four treatments replicated four times using 48 birds. The treatments were: T1 Control (100% Commercial Ration), T2 with 5% Cavendish Banana Fruit Meal, T3 7.5% Cavendish Banana Fruit Meal, and T4 10% Cavendish Banana Fruit Meal added to the ration. The results of the study were the following; birds offered with 5% CBFM had the highest feed consumption with an average of 3.32kg consumed compared to the other treatments. The highest average live weight gain was observed in 5% CBFM with 1.36kg live weight gain compared to the other treatments. Feed conversion efficiency of 2.32 was observed in birds fed without CBFM and was the highest compared to the other treatments. Subsequently, it was also found out that feed conversion efficiency is significantly comparable at inclusion rate of 0%,5%, and 7.5% while at treatments with 7.5% and 10% was rated significantly comparable. No mortality was recorded during the study. The income over feeds and chicks cost in treatments T1, T2, T3, T4, are P53, P60, P36, and P17, respectively.
