Abstract

The goal of this study was to develop a solar energy system trainer for a solar panel using artificial light such as a halogen floodlight. The trainer was designed for powering the solar panel using halogen floodlights as the source instead of sunlight and with parts available locally. The main objectives of the study were to design laboratory experiments and a trainer and to conduct tests on the trainer to understand the basic principles of solar power generation in solar panels, the electrical characteristics of solar photovoltaic modules, the open circuit voltage, the short circuit current and the -V and P-v characteristics of the source to the PV modules. The whole study only covered the construction of the proposed trainer of the solar panel powered by halogen floodlights. The design is within the budget so the materials that are available and affordable locally were used without compromising the quality. The method in the process of testing the trainer and its operation was data-based, and the voltage and current outputs of the proposed construction were tested by a multi-tester and recorded accordingly. After the evaluation, the study revealed the basic principles of solar power generation in solar panels, the electrical characteristics of solar photovoltaic modules, the -V and P-V characteristics of the source to the PV modules of the constructed trainer of the solar panels powered by halogen floodlights. Finally, the researcher was able to package the trainer to serve as a platform for solar energy system trainers powered by artificial lights related research.
