Abstract

Using Hybrid Electric Road Train, HERT, as public transportation includes the start of a modernization program in transportation in General Santos City. HERT is an eco-friendly 40-meter train-like bus that is developed by DOST M1RDC in 2015. It is mainly powered by hybrid diesel fuel and electric-powered batteries. This study is aimed to determine the opinion of the PUV Drivers on the usage of HERT in General Santos City, to compare the opinion on the use of HERT between the commuters and the PUV Drivers, and to compare the assessment of the serviceability on using HERT as a mode of transportation compared to the typically used modes of public transportation in General Santos City. According to the results, PUV Drivers are aware of the existence of HERT in General Santos City. They also believe that it can affect their livelihood and are uncertain if it could help lessen mass transport problems and support it. The opinions of the commuters and PUV Drivers don't have a significant difference. But, based on the satisfaction between using HERT and the typically used transportation by the commuters in General Santos City, it has a significant difference. Consequently, the researcher proposed recommendations that may prove to be useful for the function of HERT in General Santos City and for the awareness of the masses living therein. The researcher also proposed that the study should be continued and observed HERT in a long run to get more reliable results in determining its efficiency in General Santos City.
