Abstract

A study on the the effect of different levels of FVFJ added to the water ration on the growth performance of Cobb broilers was conducted to determine the effects on water consumption, feed consumption, live weight gain, feed conversion efficiency, mortality rate, and income over feed and chick costs from November 20 to December 24,2019 at the College of Agriculture Poultry Project, Mindanao State University, Fatima, General Santos City. Four experimental diets consisted of different levels of fermented vegetable fern juice (FVFJ) namely: T1 (control), T2 (0.2% FVFJ), T3(0.4% FVFJ) and T4 (0.6% FVFJ). Thirty five day old Cobb broiler chicks were randomly assigned to four treatments in a Completely Randomized Design (CRD). Each was replicated three times with four birds per replication. The results of the study were the following, birds offered with 0.6% FVFJ were highest on water consumption with 7.31 L compared with those birds in other treatments. Birds fed using 0.6% FVFJ in the water ration have the highest feed consumption with an average of 3.21 kg compared to the other treatments The highest average live weight gain was observed in 0.6% FVFJ with 1.17 kg feed gain compared to the other treatments. Feed conversion efficiency of 2.74 was observed in birds fed with 0.6% FVFJ was highest compared to the other treatments. Income over feed and chick cost got the highest income of Php. 32.43 per head wad sold in bird fed with no FVFJ. Statistical analysis revealed no significant differences between treatments in all parameters.
