Abstract

Automation has been a vital part of human's daily lives since the peak of its innovation. Development in wireless communication is the most evident change in our society. Researchers' focus on automation a many difficult tasks never ceases. Automation can be seen from the field of electronics up to the field of agriculture. Never ending innovaƱons are expected as there is a lot expected automations in almost every field known. The proponents chow to develop an innovation to the basic task of lawn mowing as it is expected to be beneficial to the society. The proponents developed a wireless control system of the e-mowbot, a motorized lawn mower, using an Android smartphone through Wi-Fi communication. The wimower, or the Wireless Mower, caters and safety to its users since it can be operated within a safe distance. The system has three (3) definite components: the control unit, transmission unit and driving unit. The control unit consists of the application named wimower installed on an Android smartphone that will serve as the wireless controller of the e-mowbot. The transmission unit consists of the ESP 8266 Wi-Fi shield that will receive and send the data to the driving unit, which consists of the Arduino Uno microcontroller, which will then commands the motor drivers installed in the e-mowbot. The proponents conducted separate unit tests to the components that forms the system. Tests were conducted to these modules in order to determine the integrability of these subsystems. The prototype was tested and accepted by the selected EEED faculty in line with the engineering requirements established in the beginning of the of this research. Most of the main objectives were successfully achieved but necessary improvements can be attained and the wimower can be upgraded by using more sophisticated components.
