BELLIGERENT BARRAGE: GRAYSCALE NATURE OF MEN UNVEILED THROUGH WAR IN GEORGE R.R. MARTIN'S A SONG OF ICE AND FIRE

This study is qualitative and employed content analysis. The study utilized Formalistic, Psychological and Moral-Philosophical Approach in analyzing the war, its effects and participants. Zoroastrianism 's Concept of Good and Evil is utilized in proving the grayscale nature of the main characters which holds that neither is completely good or bad rather the combination of both. The results demonstrated that the main characters Jaime and Tyhon Lannister and Theon Greyjoy are immensely influenced by wan Their initially established characteristics changed in the wake of the conflict. Psychologically, Jaime and Theon am humbled by the war whereas Tyrion Lannister becomes a deceitful, kinslaying man. John Stuart Mill's concept of Utilitarianism validated Jaime and Tyhon Lannisters' actions as both sacrifice their individual happiness over the majority. Theon Greyjoy, pursues his individual pleasures and is deemed an unethical character Moreover, the war the main characters participated enables them to act courageously and dangerously. Zoroastrianism's concept of Good and Evil is firmly rooted on the coexistence of the good and evil tomes. The war becomes an arena where characters both experience glory and dread. Pursuing this further, the main characters exhibited acceptable and unacceptable actions. The war has unleashed their aggressive tendencies but at the same time gives them opportunity to save others. Therefore, the universally accepted morel colors black and white looms from antiquity. A new shade emerges which encapsulates the unnoticed truth in life- that is- grayscale, duality in every human being.
