Comparative Analysis On Various Sands As Solar Thermal Energy Storage

Abstract

This study aimed to test and compare the five various sands namely Aggregate, Silica, Back, Whife and each as Solar thermal energy Storage. Specifically to compare a heat storage Capabilities by determining the number of hours of each sand to reach peak temperature, the number of hours for the sands to return again to their initial temperature and their specific heat capacities. The experiment was conducted for 15 days in the months of April to May, each day has a day period (heat absorption) which is 10 am to 2 pm and a night period (heat retention) which is from 2 pm till 8 pm. The data obtained from the experiment was tested using statistical analysis. The result showed that each sand is a good solar thermal energy storage yet there is no significant difference on the time of the various sands to absorb heat while the number of hours for the sands to retain heat vary on each sand with Black and Beach showing remarkable results. Lastly, the specific heat capacities of each sands also differ from each other proving that the various sands have different heat storing capabilities.
