PERFORMANCE OF ROMAINE LETTUCE(Lactuca sativa L.) AS AFFECTED BY ORGANIC COMPOST FERTILIZERS

Abstract

This study on the perfomance of romaine lettuce(Lactuca sativa L.) as affected by application of organic compost as fertilizer was conducted under green house condition of the College of Agriculture, Mindanao State Universitu, General Santos City. A completely Randomized Design (CRD) was used in this study with eight treatments and three replication; T1 - ordinary garden oil + 0.146 t/ha complete fertilizer. T2 ordinary garden soil + 8t/ha vermicast, T3 ordinary garden soil + 4..6t/ha compost. T4 ordinary garden soil + 4.6t/ha bokashi, T5 ordinary garden soil + 3.7t/ha (compost + bokashi), T6 - ordinary garden soil + 3.7t/ha (vermicast + compost), T7 ordinary garden soil + 3.7t/ha (vermicast +bokashi), T8 - ordinary garden soil + 3.5t/ha (vermicast + compost + bokashi). Result of the study found that organic fertilizer, and the combinations of compost, bokashi amd vermicast these organic fertilizer applied are a good substitute to the synthetic fertilizer showed no significant difference in terms of growth performance such as; plant , height, number of leave, weight of the plant, length of roots, and weight of roots. It is recommended that the stuyd be conducted using the same treatments into the field and other crops or the same and had a longer maturity performance. And the organic fertilizers should be applied 15 days prior to transplanting to make the nutrient available for the plant.
