STORABILITY OF LAKATAN BANANA (Musa sapientum var. lacatan) AS INFLUENCED BY SOAKING FRUITS IN ORIENTAL HERBAL NUTRIENT(OHN)SOLUTION

Abstract

This study was conducted at Teacher's Village Calumpang,General Santos City from March 23 to April 06, 2018 to which among the levels of Oriental Herbal Nutrient was most effective as postharvest treatment for Lakatan banana. A Completely Randomized Design (CRD) was used with four treatments replicated three times. The treatments were:0,0.5,1,and 1.5%levels of OHN. The results indicated no significant variation of soaking treatments using different levels of OHN on the fruit weight loss,and sugar content,and ripening period of Lakatan banana. However,the trend of storage life of Lakatan banana tended to increase from 0.5 to 1.5% OHN,suggesting the need to increase further the concentration of OHN. It is therefore suggested to explore the higher levels of OHN in improving storability of Lakatan banana.
