Abstract

Cultivation of bitter gourd requires an ample supply of plant nutrients and now a days vegetable consumers appreciate organic farming as it enhances quality of the produce thus this study was conducted to assess the response of bitter gourd (Momordica charantia) to different ratio of vennicompost and cocopeat as soil organic fer tilizer. This study was conducted at experimental Area of the College of Agriculture, Mindanao State University, Fatima Campus, General Santos City, from October 2017 to March 2018. The study used a Randomize Complete Block Design (RCBD) with six (6) treatments, replicated three (3) times. The experiment treatments consisted of T1-Vermicompost alone, T2-Cocopeat alone, Ts-Inorganíc fertilizer (20- 20-30), Ta-I: l vermicompost and cocopeat, Ts-3:1 vermicompost and cocopeat, T6- 1 :3 vermicomposr and cocopeat. The result of this study revealed that there is no significant effect of the different ratio of vermicompost and cocopeat as soil applied organic fertilizer over fruit length, fruit diameter, flowering period, weight of fruit, number of fruit, weight of non-marketable fruit, number of non-marketable fruit, number of marketable fruit and weight of marketable fruit. However, hitter gourd wider vennicompost fertilization displayed better performance from the other sources in terms of numerical values.
