Abstract

The study was conducted to test the storability of tomato with different wrapping materials under different storage condition. The study was conducted at Mindanao State University- General Santos City in the College of Agriculture laboratory for observations purposes. The results are statistically analyze using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and for test comparison Duncan Multiple Range Test(DMRT) In general conclusion, tomatoes that was store under dark room conditions wrapped with Kraft paper delays dessication or moisture loss. The reason why dark room condition delays desiccation or moisture loss because of the consistency of temperature and relatively humidity while other storage condition are stable and consistent like refrigirated condition because sometimes electricity are not available due to black out and the refrigirator are automatically turning off and ambient condition also was not consistent in terms of temperature. According to Majid Rashid study that Kraft paper which made the environmental factors like humidity etc. could not easily penetrated to the nectarines directly. This was also happened to the tomato fruit. The recommended combination of wrapping material and storage condition was the dark room condition wrapped with Kraft paper because it obtained a better statistical result. In terms of cost analysis, It's highly recommended to substitute newspaper instead of Kraft paper because newspaper were cheaper than Kraft paper
