Abstract

This study was conducted on August - December 2018 at the College of Agriculture, Mindanao State University- Fatima Campus, General Santos City. The specific objectives were to determine the effect of synthetic mulching on green chili pepper and to evaluate the best color of plastic mulch suitable for green chili pepper. A Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) was used with four (4) treatments replicated three (3) times. The· treatments used were as follows: Tl Control (No mulch), T2- Black colored plastic mulch, T3- White colored plastic mulch and T4- Transparent plastic mulch. Statistical results disclosed that plant height, number of days to 500/o bleemiag, number of days te first harvest, weight of marketable fruits per plot and fiuit yield were significantly affected by plastic colored mulch. However, fruit yield of green chili pepper was significantly reduced with the used of plastic mulch. ln general, the used of plastic mulches in this particular study regardless of color appeared to be not suitable for crops planted in places with warm or semi-arid weather condition.
