Abstract

Sunlight has the full spectrum of different wave lengths that represent each other possible color of light; Plants use different colors for different purposes. Thus this study aimed to evaluate the response of green onion to red, blue, indigo, green diffused light colors using colored polyester cloth and determine its yield performance under different light colors. This pot experiment was conducted from February to April 2017 at the Mindanao State University, General Santos City. A complete Randomized Design (CRD) was use in the experiment with five treatments replicated four times. The treatments were as follows T1-control(open sunlight) T2-(redcolor) T3-(blue color), T4(indigo color) and T5(green color). Each treatment except T1 was provided with rent typed colored covers and potted onions were arranged inside the tent and plant were observed until the termination of the study. The result of the study showed that the number of leaves, plant yield plant vigor and color of leaves of green onion were significantly affected by diffused light colors except the plant height. Generally in this study, the diffused light colors using polyester cloth had reduced plant vigor and consquently reduced the yield of green onion. It is suggested that similar study will be conducted using different colors of cellophane as net as plant cover to validate the result of this study.
