TWISTED NERVE: PSYCHOANALYSIS OF THE CHARACTERS IN AMERICAN HORROR STORY

This qualitative study utilized content analysis. The study used the Formalistic Approach, Psychoanalysis Approach, and Myth Archetypal Approach in analyzing the characters portrayed by Evan Peters' characteristics, the relationship established with other characters, and the relativity of the real-life people who were the basis of the character's identity. The results showed that the characters portrayed by Evan Peters have shown acquired mental illness due to external factors, including substance abuse and conflicted upbringing. The relationships made by the characters portrayed by Evan Peters toward other characters have shaped the outcome of their motives and goals in their stories. Moreover, the relativity of the real-life people upon whom the fictional characters were based was evident to show realistic representation. Limiting the information about the real people included in the show was a technique for utilizing horror stories and fitting into the season portrayed. Indeed, the American Horror Story shows that the life stories of the real people are an inspiration to create good content and establish reality.
