SAME SUBJECTS, DIFFERENT LIGHTS: YOUNG BLOOD ESSAYS IN THE LENS OF INTERTEXTUALITY

This study aimed to explore the Intertextuality found in the Young Blood Essays and how it improved the reading comprehension of a reader. The study used a qualitative descriptive design, specifically content analysis and focus group discussion. Findings revealed that Intertextuality manifested in linguistic features like referencing, use of quotation, and allusion. Intertextuality, therefore, enhances the comprehension of first-year college students by helping the schema activation, promoting connection with other text, awakening interest, and encouraging the readers to read or watch the mentioned book or movies. It also enhances the construction of meaning, leading the reader to have a more profound analysis.
