THE THROES ABAFT EVERY WAVE: THE MONOMYTHICAL REPRESENTATION OF THE FILIPINA BEAUTY QUEENS

This study is mainly concerned with the biographies of the Filipina beauty queens: Venus Raj, Shamcey Supsup and Pia Wurtzbach, who eventually brought the Philippines into the limelight of pageantry. This study discusses how these women empowered people, especially their fellow women, through the victories of their respective journeys. Using Christopher Vogler's concept of the Hero's Journey, the study discusses how a character transforms from being an ordinary individual to becoming a hero through the panacea that she can illuminate to the majority after completing the stages of her journey. This study explores these beauty queens' lives, from being ordinary girls to becoming dreamers of their goals, to persons of failures up to becoming persons of success, which eventually made them icons of inspiration. Through the 12 stages under the concept of Christopher Vogler's The Hero's Journey, the study went through the qualifications of these beauty queens' lives to fit into each stage and connect and extract its relevance. This study also exhibits the concept of feminism in pageantry. It evolved from being a platform of section for women to become a platform of strength through the portrayal of the evolution of the waves of feminism that involves the development of the people's perspective towards pageantry. Therefore, in today's era, pageantry has been a platform for strengthening the women, their potentiality and their rights concerning their roles in the society and the pageant itself is the complete abstract of the Hero's Journey.
