HUMOR CONTENT ANALYSIS USING THE VIOLATED CONVERSATIONAL MAXIMS IN BUBBLE GANG

This study used mixed methods, qualitative and quantitative research approaches. The study aimed to identify and to analyze the different violations of conversational maxims committed by the actors and actresses from the selected segments of the program, Bubble Gang, to know its contributions to humor, and its implications. The researcher attempted to interpret the data from BG using the categories of Humor by Gerald Schoenewolf. PhD, the conversational maxims of Henry Paul Grice, and discourse analysis. The researcher also administered a self-made validated instrument and surveyed 30 respondents, ages 14 to 49, from Region 12 (General Santos City and Polomolok), NCR (Cavite, Laguna, and Metro Manila), and Region 10 (Cagayan de Oro and Lanao del Sur). The violated conversational maxims found in the program were namely the maxim of quality, maxim of relation, and man manner. The contributions of the violations in maxims were to create punchlines, to make the plot more unpredictable which made the product humor more appealing for the audience. It also covered sexual contents to avoid issues with the viewers and with the society The maxim of manner was the most effective violation to use since most of the audience of BG were males at age 20
