THE EMBLEM Of MEN'S FEAR: A PORTRAYAL OF FEMALE ANIME CHARACTERS THROUGH A FEMINIST' LENS

This study is qualitative in nature that employs content analysis. The study utilized the Formalistic Approach and Feministic Approach in identifying and discussing the development of femme fatale in the three female anime characters, their struggles, and their present portrayal in the Anime Series. The researcher utilized three female Anime characters: Irina Jelavic in Classroom Assassination, Boa Hancock in One Piece, and C.C. in Code Geass. Results showed that these three female characters share similar characteristics; beautiful, manipulative, criminal, and selfish; however, deep down, they were rather sensitive and vulnerable women. They were victims of their past by which those certain circumstances had triggered them to awaken their inherent trait-the femme fatale and utilize it to survive and achieve their dream. The feminist theory of sexual objectification, patriarchal system, and women discrimination also affected these three female characters and instead used femme fatale as a tool to empower their femininity. Each had given free will to either provoke it or not. They experience social struggle, physical struggle, and emotional struggle that had also added to the factor affecting the development of femme fatale.
