BARANGAY CONEL: FROM SETTLEMENT UP TO THE PRESENT

General Santos City, from its beginnings as a settlement to its establishment as a barangay and its condition at the time of the study in 2002. It particularly examines the factors and circumstances that contributed to the settlement’s development and eventual recognition
as a barangay. Using the historical method, the study gathered information through documentary analysis and interviews with community members and other key informants. Documentary records and oral accounts were examined to reconstruct the community’s
development and identify the significant factors that influenced its transformation. The study provides a brief historical description of Barangay Conel up to 2002 and documents the community’s transition from a settlement into an organized barangay. It serves as an early local historical account of Conel and provides baseline information for subsequent studies on the barangay’s history and development.
