Abstract
The thesis entitled "Performance of spring onion (Allium fistulosum) affected by coco coir, coco sawdust corn cobs and wetcake with bottom ash as growing media.” was conducted to determine the effects of different amendments in the soil, and to evaluate the importance of spring onion and growing media with soil amendments. The study was conducted in April 2019 to May 2018 at the Magbujos Residence, Barangay Bula, General Santos City. A Completely Random Design (CRD), with five (5) treatments replicated three (3) times with five (5) sample pots in each replication, was used in the study. The treatments used in spring onions are the following: T1- Control, T2- Coco coir, T3- coco sawdust, T4- corn cobs, and T5- wetcake with bottom ash. The media is composed of 1:1 ratio. Based on the results, the shoots length and root length were obtained by using ruler. T2- Coco coir had a highly significant result in shoot length with 25.68cm. T2- Coco coir influenced the root length of spring onions with 13.23cm. The number of leaves under coco coir showed a significant result. On the other hand, the T3- Coconut sawdust provides poor effect throughout the parameters of the study. Among the all the treatments, the coco coir showed the highest figures in the data results. Therefore, the results obtained suggested that coco coir shows effectiveness among the rest of the treatments.
