Abstract

Pechay scientifically known as Brassica chinensis L. Is an erect, Biennial herb and one of the oldest green vegetables in Asia. Pechay is cultivated in temperate regions worldwide. Pechay is used mainly for its immature, but fully expanded tender leaves. The study on," The effect of different levels of fermented waste bell pepper (Capsicum annuum) as foliar fertilizer on pechay (Brassica chinensis)" was conducted to evaluate the response of pechay to different levels of fermented waste bell pepper and to determine the level that could give optimum yield. Fermented waste bell pepper is used to enhance the soil and increase production of leafy plants. Plants suited in making fermented plant juice are vegetables that are high in potassium this includes the sweet bell pepper. This field experimental study was conducted at Mindanao State University, General Santos City from February 06, 2020 to March 21, 2020. This study was laid-out in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with five treatment and three replications. The varying levels of fermented waste bell pepper which served as the treatments were 0,10,30,40 and 50 % respectively. However, the results revealed that different levels of fermented waste bell pepper had no significant effect on the plant height, number of leaves, width of the leaves, average plant height and the plant yield. In general, the application of fermented waste bell pepper did not improve the growth and yield parameters of pechay. The prevailing drought condition during the conduct of the study could have prevented the application of fermented waste bell-pepper to enhance favourably the growth and yield of pechay.
