Siling haba (Capsicum annum) family Solanaceae known for their high nutrional content (which includes a good range of vitamins, minerals, phytochemicals and dietary fiber), may play a role in decreasing human micronutrient deficiencies. This study was performed to know the germinability of green chili pepper (Capsicum annum) as affected by different ways of seed preparation. A completely randomized design (CRD) was used in this study with four treatments replicated five (5) times. The treatment used in this study were as follows: T1 - Control (Dried Seeds); T2-freshly extracted seeds; T3 – dried seeds in pods; T4 - fresh seeds in pods. Seedling height and seedling vigor were remarkably affected the height of seedling ranges from 88.95 to 90.83mm while root length, germination percentage and days to germination were not affeceted by the different ways of seed preparation in chilli pepper.
Seedling vigor exhibited distinct performance between fresh seeds and dried seeds whether in pods or separated from its pods, which suggest that fresh seeds of riped green chilli can be used as planting material making it more easier and time saving in seed preparation for planting material.
