Abstract

The study was conducted in General Santos City from October to December 2021. The study aimed to analyze the goat production and marketing operations of backyard goat production in General Santos City. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics.

The result shows that majority of the raisers were males in their middle age, and most were able to reach only at High school level. With regard to marketing practices, the most common practices of the raisers are through word of mouth. This system enables the farmers to save on transportation costs and avoid transport losses due to stress. As for the production practices, 65% of the backyard goat raisers confined their goats partially, which means that they both confine and graze their goats. This implies that most backyard raisers partially confine their goats for convenience. However, all goats are confined during nighttime. The result shows that most raisers are good at implementing their farm management practices though they have different farm management practices. In terms of cost and return analysis, it shows that the net income of the raisers is Php 8,353.5. Hence, backyard goat production is profitable.
